With the success of last years program and or spring/summer HPA training program we are confident we can once again add value to your players in season development.

The ability for hockey players to attend an institution that supports their athletic goals and keeps each players education as its top priority is something no other school in Ottawa can offer. To compliment this learning environment we are going to introduce a option for those same players to train while attending school.

The ability to work with the kids on a more consistent basis as well as building the confidence with the players will lend itself to exponential growth/development. Players can believe in our consistent messaging and challenge themselves with confidence knowing we genuinely are there to help each player achieve their goals.

Program Development and Focus

Our programming will be built using the long term athlete development model(LTAD). On our coaching staff we have 2 Hockey Canada High Performance certified coaches and 14 NCCP-Developing Athletic Abilities certified coaches. This gives us the unique skills to build programming that will not only simulate games on a development front but also train players on a biological and metabolic level.

3 Biological Principles Considered:

A. Player Specific variables  - players YOB, current 'adolescent' age, level of competition and phase of season/off season

B. Athletic Abilities  & Sport Specific Training - hockey is a game of quick bursts, short sprints and endurance at high speed for moderate periods of time. Training the players speed, speed strength and speed endurance will be a priority.

C. Energy Systems - Training players specifically on a biological level to achieve a defined result. Work to rest ratios will be used to simulate true sport specific game training in order to engage proper cardiovascular goals.

The skill development side of the program will be built using two long standing training protocols that Next Generation HKY has seen great success with.

1. The STRIDE EFFICIENCY program will support players current skills however challenging them to increase symmetry and muscle/ligament grouping. In simple terms the body is most efficient when all muscles groups, tendons and ligaments are used in a balanced series. This can be as small as how your toes are planted on the foot bed of the skate right through to how your fingers relax to drive through with your arm swing.

Each element of a players body can directly effect its efficiency and we strive to identify and correct any deficiencies in this series that will effect the desired result of speed.(click the embedded link above to read a more detailed description)

2. The PUCK CONFIDENCE program is generally quite self explanatory. The ability for a player to know their options for what they should do with the puck prior to even getting the puck is an intangible often overlooked. Whether the player needs to use their body to create space, put the puck in a certain position to create a shot/pass option or simply needs to recognize a play developing to give them an opportunity.

We re-create true game scenarios for individual players to learn to recognize and how to maximize their opportunities from them. We teach through repetition and see very quick practice to game transfer as player become more confident in themselves. (click the embedded link above to read a more detailed description)
